But a picture was continually obsessed artist's mind: to develop a new and original vision of a Christ on the Cross. The idea, which was already thinking about a long time ago started in the mid-40s, and would be taking shape in a very long gestation, but it was full of countless vicissitudes and controversies. The genesis of the picture was really complex, both in the crystallization conceptual and formal as in the time spent on it, forcing the painter to find solutions to the problems plastic-expressive and historicist who longed for conducting rigorous archaeological studies, anthropomorphic, theological and formal that materialize in many sketches which failed to convince the author.
